In 2025, ToonBeeld Thorn celebrates its 15th edition with a special Living Statues Festival on Pentecost Sunday, featuring top acts from the Benelux and highlights from past years.

The story

Something totally different today: on this Pentecost Sunday, I went out to photograph a living statues championship using a new film simulation recipe, in the beautiful and cozy little city of Thorn. Of course, I got pulled over by a cop – you can see him in the pictures!

Aachen is the 13th-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the 28th-largest city of Germany. It is the westernmost city in Germany, and borders Belgium and the Netherlands to the west, the triborder area. It is located between Maastricht and Liège in the west, and Bonn and Cologne in the east.

The story

A short walk in downtown Aachen with the ancient, compact, and always reliable Samsung NX Mini, perfect for capturing some contrasty black and white shots on a sunny day.

Maastricht 🇳🇱

Maastricht is a city and a municipality in the southeastern Netherlands. It is the capital and largest city of the province of Limburg. Maastricht is located on both sides of the Meuse, at the point where the Jeker joins it. Mount Saint Peter is largely situated within the city's municipal borders.

The story

It was a sunny day in the beautiful city of Maastricht! In the evening, I attended another Vive La Fête concert, so during the day, the perfect weather made it ideal for a photography walk.

Koningsdag 👑, Breda 🇳🇱

Koningsdag or King's Day is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Celebrated on 27 April (26 April if the 27th is a Sunday), the date marks the birth of King Willem-Alexander. When the Dutch monarch is female, the holiday is known as Koninginnedag or Queen's Day and, under Queen Beatrix until 2013, was celebrated on 30 April.

Breda is a city and municipality in the southern part of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Brabant. The name derived from brede Aa and refers to the confluence of the rivers Mark and Aa.

The story

For this year’s edition of King’s Day, I visited Breda: a sun-filled day with nice people and way-too-expensive drinks! Unfortunately, I used the silent electronic shutter instead of the mechanical one, which caused banding in many of the pictures of the band under the spotlights – so a lot of photos didn’t pass quality control. Better luck next time!
