Stolberg 🇩🇪

Stolberg is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has a long history as an industrial town and belongs to the district Aachen and the lower district court of Eschweiler.

The story

I went to Stolberg on a beautiful sunny day, riding my electric scooter, eager to see some tanks and Burg Stolberg. Unfortunately, the tanks were in muddy, swampy terrain, so I only ended up exploring Burg Stolberg and visiting the Zinkhütter Hof museum. Despite that, it turned out to be a successful and enjoyable day!

Dachau was one of the first concentration camps built by Nazi Germany and the longest running one, opening on 22 March 1933. The camp was initially intended to intern Hitler’s political opponents, which consisted of communists, social democrats, and other dissidents.

The story

While heading back home from Munich, I drove past the Dachau concentration camp.

München (Munich) 🇩🇪

Munich is the capital and most populous city of the Free State of Bavaria. It is the third-largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg, and thus the largest which does not constitute its own state, as well as the 11th-largest city in the European Union. The city's metropolitan region is home to about six million people.

The story

The first full day in Munich: exploring the city with the stealthy Ricoh in color, and in the darkness the good ol’ Flek excels in black and white.

Trier 🇩🇪

Trier is a city on the banks of the Moselle in Germany. It lies in a valley between low vine-covered hills of red sandstone in the west of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, near the border with Luxembourg and within the important Moselle wine region.

The story

Testing my “new” lens, the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35mm f/2.8, according to its serial number, built somewhere between 1961 and 1964. Shot wide open for the most vintage look possible and in black and white, where the lens excels.

Löwenburg, Kassel 🇩🇪

Built at the end of the 18th century by Elector Wilhelm I, he pursued one goal: Löwenburg Castle was to display the power and endurance of the House of Hesse. On a side note: the elector never lived in this castle. The building represented the beginning of a romanticising return to the Middle Ages; a development that culminated in the idealised, pseudo-medieval castle of Neuschwanstein.
